Man, three words: PLAZMA CUTTER BABY! I got both cowl patch panels sized and fitted and both floor pans sized and fitted ready to weld all in 4 hours.

My question is on the cowl patch panels. Where it will overlap the remaining cowl metal in the center, should the center section lay on top the cowl vent patch panal or should the patch panel lay on top of the center section? The seam will be welded solid and covered with seam sealer. My concern was whether or not water would lay in the center section if the patch panel layed on top the center section. It will be rust proofed and painted regardless but I wanted to see what people thought. Thanks.

When I did mine I slid the patch under the center section but I dont think it matters much. The center section slopes forward and sideways. i tacked my seams then brazed them completely, ground them smooth then seam sealed them. I think with the vibration of the car and the slope of the center section there wont be much standing water.

When I did mine I took a (forgot what you call it but a pair of vice-grips made to offset the original panel) and laid the patch down inside of it and welded it and then ground it flush.

A set of flange pliers. Yea, I think that is a great idea. I have gbeen meaning to get a set anyway. Seems like a good time to get them.

Tos, thanks, I was leaning towards under the center anyway.I think it will be the best. As good as it will be repaired, it won't rust in my lifetime...

They have a pnuematic flanging tool too. I have one that i got from Harbor freight and it works great especially if your doing a long flange like a partila quarter panel replacement. Just make sure after you do your cowl repair that you prime and paint it with a good strong paint like maybe a farm implement paint from tractor supply.
