Crack in Water Pump

I was checking the car out for racing this Saturday and saw a small drop off coolant hanging on the battery cables that run under the engine.
I found a crack in the water pump housing next to the bottom hose.
Guess it wouldn't be a good idea to take it down the track like this.
Looks like I can't do the last 3 races of this season.

That's crazy,not sure how that would even happen. However,I've been running a Rockauto hd pump with great success.

The guy that bought the car from me in 2016 replaced the water pump for some reason.
And a bunch of misc. parts. It was fine. He just replaced parts that didn't need to be replaced?
Maybe he over torqued the bolts? Or defective water pump housing?
Glad I caught it!
Coolant spraying out under the slicks, not good!

Odd spot to crack, that's the backing plate bolt boss if I'm seeing it right and they don't even thread in that far., I'd take note of the brand and casting marks. Might be a generic China casting they skimped on the mold and took out to much material in that spot, most of the aftermarket companies are all using Chinese castings now, even motor craft pumps are.

I've been using either local parts house brands for lifetime warranty or cheapy old stock reman I gab on fleabay for around 20-25 shipped if I want a "ford " casting. Just pay attention to the listing, not all are rebuilt ford cores. 58-347 should bring up a few sellers who buy up old stock inventory to sell on ebay.

I'd grab a DC repo stud kit or the Dorman 3pc help stud kit just incase, a few of those suckers all ways rot out if who every did the pump last didn't coat them.

If you have a coolant pressure tester might want to double check its not leaking from above and running down. The pic kind of looks like a casting mark and its really clean on my screen but this tablets pretty crappy. I switched over to Toyota pink organic coolant years ago since I all ways had it from work plus makes small leaks easy to spot since it will cake up at the source.

Maybe just me but if I was trying to make a race this weekend I'd run down to the parts store and get one, take the 30mins to swap it in and send it....

Then replace with a quality one in the off season...

I got a Napa HD pump coming tomorrow. All new hoses and coolant too.
Heard some good things about their pumps.
It's a crap shoot when you buy. I could have ordered a Motorcraft but, I guess it's made in China.
Won't make the track this Saturday, but maybe the next final 2.

Just installed a Motorcraft water pump in mine...made in China unfortunately.

Tuff Stuff pumps are built in the USA but my guess is they are using an import casting for the water pump housing. Will still be high quality but there is a difference between made in the USA and built in the USA.

FlowKooler appears to be made in USA and I am pressure sure Edelbrock water pumps are made in the USA.

I was going to buy the Tuff Stuff Hi-Flow Pump. But I didn't want to wait the shipping time.
That will be my next one if this one fails.

Way the industry has been going for years, might start seeing Mexico again if they crack down on them bypassing tariffs since most are shipping to Mexico then truck it in to avoid it. Why I stick with the local supplier with the warranty

I just but a Napa water pump in my 351w truck. I had one STUBBORN bolt. Heating the timing cover and an impact gun on a low setting eventually got it out. Patience is key, it took numerous cycles of heating. I was sweating bullets! It’s a total pita when those bolts break.

I think it's where the part is made more than where it's assembled in my opinion.
