Crapping out and pinging after shifts at the track...

I've had this issue for a long time now. I haven't been to the track for over two years until tonight and it is still having the same problem. What is weird is that it did the same thing a few years back when I had a totally different engine/tranny/suspension in the same car. Even the ECU was different in that combo. Anyway, this is what is happening:

Engine first started bogging directly after shift to fourth. Occasionally hear pinging to while it is bogging. The bog will vary from a half second to maybe two seconds long then it will run normal. I did quite a few runs and noticed it doing the same type of bogging in different gears each time. Once it did it after 2nd and 4th shift, then another run it bogged at the line and also after 3rd shift. It was worse tonight than I remember it before. I'm not sure what the deal is. I was thinking ignition but if it was doing it years back when I had a stroker with full MSD ignition and Tweecer etc. I dunno what the deal is now.

I thought that my D/S out of balance was throwing it off but I had it rebalanced last year. It sure feels like ignition to me but maybe it is a fuel issue? I do not notice any issues on the street, just at the track at WOT right after shifting.

I don't think so...I've cleaned it plus it is a newer Pro-M 80mm.....

whats your timing set at??? Any change if you run 93 octane?

There a prob. with the harness maybe??? Shifting may jolt a plug with a poor connection? Is it pulling timing?

If you had the same issue before with a different engine, transmission etc., then you could argue something you did not change is what's causing the issue.

I would start with looking into the componets of the ignition system, then look at what your fuel system is composed of, and then go from there.

It could be something as little as a plug or the coil, or a major issue...

Thanks for the ideas. I do run Shell 93 Octane at all times. My timing is at 13 degrees I believe...I will have to double check that. When I had the other engine in there, it was a Fox style ignition system so the engine wiring harness was different. I have an extra ignition module and a set of MSD wires I'm going to swap them just to see if anything changes.
