Any of you were out there tonight may have seen me (the maroon stang overheating and getting jumpstarts in the staging lanes). Man what a crappy night.
My first run, I spun the tires bad, was pinging like crazy, and didn't quite shift right, and ran a 15.1 (which incidentally is the best time in this car). So I get kind of excited. I figure I'll let some air out of the tires (they were at 40psi) and back off the timing, and have a decent run.
Oh not at all. My car overheated in the staging lane. So, to keep it cool, I ran my (new) electric fan that I'm regretting. Well, that cooled it down, then started to draw the battery and killed the car. I got a jump start and by the time I got up there, the motor was cool, and the battery was still low but workable. I took the timing back and ran it.
I launched great, took off and it was ping city. I backed off it at the end of the track. ET: 16.5
That wasnt the worst. I overheated again in the staging lane, and put a timing gun on the car. It sometimes idles up and down, between 800 and 1200 RPM. Well, today I found out when it does that, it takes my timing up 4 degrees. So, my timing was set at 12, but fluctuating up to 16 (hence the pinging). I took the timing back down to 10, figuring the worst it would go is 14 degrees.
I ran it a third time and I killed it half track. It started pinging hard, so I let off it, then the temp shot thru the roof, so I killed it and coasted the rest of the way. I ended up running a 20.78. Thats gotta be the lowest time on stangnet!
All in all, a crappy day, and I wont be going out saturday. But, it was still fun, believe it or not. Back to the drawing board for sure!
