I just got my car back from putting in new heads and it drove great for a few days, (other than the occasional hesitation from a sensor). Well, today, I get on it and slam into 2nd. I drove normal after that and noticed a hell of a lot of vibration. So, I tried a few different things. Revving above 3k just makes it vibrate. The higher the RPM, the more it vibrates. I revved it in neutral at a stop and while rolling. Still vibrates. I put in in gear while rolling at higher speeds and the vibration almost goes away when I put the clutch in while rolling. Meaning that the vibration does not occur at idle, rolling or not. As soon as I put in back in gear, it vibrates. Even at 15 MPH in 1st gear it vibrates. I just put in a new Professional Products balancer 3 days ago. The weight is still solid and in tact. I asked a good friend of mine which is a mechanic and he said it is almost 100% that it is my clutch/flywheel. This makes sense because is happened right after I abused it. And the clutch is about 3 years old with about 40k miles on it. It's a centerforce stage 1. Does this sound right to your guys? I just recently put in an aluminum driveshaft and it almost stopped the vibration I had before. It was down to a minimum. Any other things I should check before I buy new parts? I just don't want to get a new clutch and flywheel and that not be the problem. Do you think it is safe to drive if I dont go above 3k RPM for the next few days?

No, I would say it is not safe to drive. You could make matters much worse. You sure you got the right balancer (internal/external)?

It definetely sounds like the clutch has seen beter days. I would take a look at it. Maybe even remove the trans from the engine and re-try starting the engine to see if the vib is still there... but it only takes one missing chunk of clutch material to cause this.

if it was the balancer, it would vibrate all the time. it is definitely drivetrain related. pull the tranny and check the clutch assembly. in the meantime, i would NOT drive it. any vibration coming from the drivetrain is putting undue stress on the internals of the motor since the flywheel is attached directly to the crankshaft.

Good point. And I gotta restress the suggestion not to drive it. You could do untold damage to your engine and transmission.

I recently had an experience similar to yours. Turned out the rocker arm nut had come off of the number 8 intake valve. The reason I say this is because you stated that you just had heads put on. Start the car up and listen for metal to metal sounds at both valve covers while lightly revving the car. Peace.

Or pull the valve cover and look?

Yeah, pop the valve covers and check. No point of possibly damaging something more when all you have to do is take out a few bolts!

Was it very loud? The engine sounds fine to me. It sounds like it always did before. No knocking or clunking or metal sounds. Some people say it's probably the flywheel or clutch since I drove it hard and the clutch hasn't replaced for a ew years. Or maybe something came loose or something. I just don't know what other things it could be. I am going to get a new clutch and flywheel since I need it replaced anyway, but the only other worry I have is that it won't fix the problem. I'm going to pull the valve covers anyway just in case, but what else could it be beside the balancer, which is brand new,or mounts, which are energy suspension motor and tranny and not that old?

It wasn't really loud - it was more of a heavy rumble that got worse when I revved the car. It sorta felt like it was coming from the bottom end - scared the hell out of me. Initially, I thought the clutch and balancer but the balancer is new and the clutch was new before I had a mishap. Yeah just pull the valve covers and check. Like I said my rocker arm nut was just laying to the side of the rocker arm. Let us know. Peace

I have this same problem. Cant rev the car past 2-3k without feeling like its gonna spin something. however if I disengage the clutch its not so bad. Most the vibes are transmitted through the tranny and into my stick. My balancer seems to be as hard as a rock. I bought it this way so I'm not too sure whats up Any idea what kind of stuff you can see in the clutch area if you remove the 'inspection' plate? Never done that before. Anyway keep us updated I really want to know if you fix this
