I helping my friend put on TFS Twisted wedge heads and he wants a new cam for his 92 LX with a AOD. We are looking at these two cams. Would either of these two cams work with Twisted Wedge heads? And which one would be the best cam for a auto with stall converter?
the 222/228 duration might be a bit much, with the e303 220/220 w/.529/.529 I get my best times/mph shifting at 6200. Maybe try #15511 but with 1.7's (.497/.516)?
What speed stall converter with the auto? What rear gear? Either of those cams with stock aod/stall converter/gears is likely to feel pretty soft on the bottom. If you talk to Crower's tech line about them, my guess is that they'll recommend more gear and more stall converter with either one.
As for p to v, rocker ratio choice between 1.6 and 1.7 has very little impact on p to v (you may lose around 5 thousandths). However, with 2.02 valves, and either cam you ABSOLUTELY need to measure p to v clearance before you try running the engine. A lot of people think peak lift is what they're worried about. Peak lift has nothing to do with p to v clearance because the pistons are well down the cylinder at peak lift. Go to this link and read - it does a great job of explaining what the issues are. And - to reiterate what's said in the link - with the heads and cams you're looking at, it doesn't really matter what happened with someone else's combo - theirs could clear, and yours might not, or vice versa. MEASURING is the only way to be certain.
Good article, very helpful. As far as the questions you asked, the stall is 2800rpm with 3.73 out back. We are planning on using 1.6 rr not the 1.7 rr.
