i have a posi 8.8 disc rear end from a 91ish Crown Vic. the housing is twisted and bent, from an accident. i would like to swap the disc brake set-up to a 9" 71 Cougar rear end. what parts are needed off the C.V. rear and what extra parts am i going to need. i am not in a hurry to do the swap, my car is 556.4 miles away from me in storage....i have the C.V. rear end sitting at my house, and would like to get it stripped down and tossed out. also, if anyone wants the gears, let me know, and we can work something out...has anyone done this swap? parts should be plentiful and cheap. i dont know if there is a difference in the Explorer rear brakes and the Crown Vic, anyone know? i have been searching for the answers to these questions, but have not had a solid answer.....

if you want to swap the brakes over take everything you can get, rotors, calipers, caliper mounting brackets, parking brake cables and brackets. personally i would strip it down to a bare housing and sell the gearset. the axles them selves are probably trash so toss them with the housing. once you get rid of the housing you won't have much left.

A new e-brake cable and spacers to center the rotors on the axle hubs. I also think a spacer is needed for the axle bearing. There were a couple of threads regarding this (and an installation kit) on www.mercurycougar.net. Use the SEARCH function there.
