I just wanted to know if cruising at 2300-2700 RPMS, due to 4.10s, has put too much strain on the transmission? WIll is wear out quicker than with the stock gears? Is the 3650 strong enough to take everyday driving 50 or 60 miles a day between 2000 and 3000 rpms?
Bill Putnam(Mustang92) does a 70+ mile daily commute in his 00GT with 4.30 gears. As far as I know, he has over 110k miles and still going strong. He also ran a best of 11.97 in the 1/4 mile with just cams, bolt-ons, weight reduction, and a dyno tune. I'm not sure if he's had any trouble with his transmission or not but if he has, I'm willing to be it wasn't from too high of cruising rpms, but more likely all the stress from his fast racing.
we've got 4.10 gears in our 01 saleen and we don't have any problems with it. my mom drives it everyday to work and back which is probably round 25 miles each way. and almost weekend i take it to the beach which is 50 miles away. no problems what so ever.
Lower gearing WILL add stress to the transmission. In my auto, my trans temps went from 115* during interstate cruising to up around 140*. Around town I would normally get up to maybe 150*, however now my cooler is actually having to work to keep temps below 180*.
Those arent 'bad' temps to run at, but I'd personally rather run cooler. Those #s are WITH an auxillary cooler too.
I would definitely suggest a trans cooler with lower gearing. Other than that, the only extra harshness will be decided by how you shift.
bill is also running a TKO now ( i think) but i wouldnt worry about it putting as much strain on ur tranny as i would your engine. But since it take less power to get moving with 4.10s it all evens out in the end so...throw those gears in there and have fun
