well the whine I have on decel since I swapped in the ford racing gears finally has got to me so I ripped it back apart.I measured the heads of the old and the new pinion and they are exactly the same thats why I used the old shim(0.35) anyway I was looking at the crush sleeve and it doesnt look like it changed at all from when it was new,now in thinking that it didnt crush, even though I measured the preload with an inch lb torque wrench and got within specs.does a used crush sleeve look noticeably different from a new one?cause I was looking at a used one I had laying around and the raised area in the center of the sleeve is allmost gone and the sleeve is noticeably longer.

Yes there is a difference between one that is crushed and one that is not. The crush washed should look like the old one you took out. The gears might have a slightly different depth requirement than your old ones.

I thought i had mine set good (I just did it this week) tightened the nut down everything seemed good, but the nut tightened way easier than what I've heard it should. I drove it for two days and had a little wine then just checked today and it had loosened up. So then I knew that I didn't crush the crush sleeve. I had to use a half inch breaker bar with a handle from a floor jack over it to tighten it while laying under the car and it took bout all I had to push it up. Keep in mind I can bench over three hundred and I was still havin trouble so if you didn't tighten it that tight you probably didn't crush it.
Has no wine at all now.
