current draw

Lately my car has decided that it wants to drain the battery if it sits too long without running. I had the alternator checked and it's good, and I removed all stereo fuses; draw still exists. I started removing wires from the battery side of my starter relay and got rid of the draw when I took off the wire with the goofy looking electronic piece.. I don't know if it's a capacitor, a breaker, or what, but that got rid of the draw. My question is, what does this wire go to? Whatever it connects to is causing my electrical drain. Thanks

Get a meter that will measure AMPS in DC current.

Take off the POS lead off the battery and hook up the meter in series.

With the car off, you should get less than 1.0 amps of current draw.

If you get more, start yanking fuses or removng wires wil you isolate the problem.

Then you can take it from there

to add, in case one is not used to doing this - be sure to take into consideration known draws like the interior light (if you have the door open while pulling fuses, etc). otherwise, your head will spin trying to isolate the draw. :)

good luck and good advice from the ever-busy Mike. :)
