Custom Rollcage, Subframes throught the floor?

Well the project is getting underway. I received a quote for $1200-1300 for a 6 point (actually 8, since there are 2 support legs for the main hoop) roll cage w. solid side bars, along with custom made through the floor subframe connectors, all of this installed into my 65 coupe. The bars for the roll cage will be bent by the builder himself, and fitted to me. All he wants from me is to drop the car off gutted except for the seats and dash/doors. What do you guys think of this price? Fair? high? a steal? I really have no previous experience with rollcage costs.
p.s some support info: The car will be getting a stroked 351 making around 500 hp, so regidity will be key to keeping the car in once piece.

To be honest the price doesn't seem all that unreasonable, but I haven't priced out a roll cage......yet Where you located in Jersey?

that's a fair price for a REALLY GOOD cage.

see if he has pics of previous ones he's done or any references.

you could get a cage cheaper, just depends on how nice you want it.

I agree. Get references. Just like paint. Make sure they know where to tie the roll cage in to the uni body braces. I can tell you that I can do an excellent job! But if I cannot weld, and have no previous experience, then I am probably not worth a premium price. But, if I do know what I am doing, then I am worth the cost!

Have they ever done this before? The cost sounds fair. For a good job.

thats a fair price for chromoly not mild steel. and you might as well make it a 10 point since a 8 point is only as legal as roll bar (6 pt.)
thats just me.

i think it's high. s&w sells their rollbars for ~$250, so you're paying almost a grand (minus subframes) for the install. that's stratospheric. i got a quote for $300 to install mine.

fwiw...A custom class built chromoly 8pt from a very reputable quality work shop around here will net ~$2k, you might find someone as low as 1500... but your getting way more than simply 8 bars welded in there. I believe chromoly is roughly 2x steel per foot.

A custom basic steel 8 point for a street/strip car can be had for ~5-600 around here...Im not sure what the rate for the thru the floor subs on the 1st Gens would be, but seems a bit high for steel.

Also, the shop that offered the first price is a pretty reputable shop. They have done work on my cars before and it has been excellent, and the man who would be making my cage is a drag racer who builds his own frames for his dragsters. Ill look for other sources who have worked with him.

That price doesn't sound too bad for a rollbar made to the car, but not having the doors on confuses me a bit. I've seen cars that had to have the door armrests removed or cut to fit around the door bar ('68 Mustang). In a '65 stang it's not too bad unless you have deluxe interior.

Here's some pics of my buddy Kevin's '68 coupe and no, his door bars were bent to fit around the armrests and although you can't put your arm on them, they're good for reaching over the bar to grab the door to shut it.
