Cutting 6cyl Springs

K, running these on my car for weight transfer, but I cant stand the front being jacked up like it is. Thought it might settle some but it really hasnt any.

I'm guessing maybe one coil will be enough, but anyone cut theirs and how much did you take out? I figure I need to drop a good inch to inch and a half.

First off, you have a bitchin' Mustang. I just got finished watching your video at Redding, that car hauls! As far as cutting coils, one full coil gave me a 2" drop, but I chopped a 1/4 coil at a time just to be safe. It's time consuming, but it beats trying to weld parts of a coil back on when you realize you went too far. BTW, any chance you'll make it to Samoa dragstrip in Eureka next year? If so, let me know in advance, I live near there and would love to see that coupe run in person!

Ya, I want to go there, our local engine builder mentioned that track. I'd like to try it out once next yr.

I've got 6 cylinder springs on the front of mine and it sits a bit too tall in the front as well. I've even cut maybe 1/4-1/2 of a spring already. I am about to cut another 1/4 coil off and see where that puts me.
If I were you I would not go more than 1/2 a coil on the first cut. 1 full coil is a big drop.

Be very careful with the 6cyl springs. They don't have the same spring rate. I'd follow the above, and start at no more than a 1/4. I'm thinking about it, but it's hard. the car dives bad at our local track. No a lot of shut down. Probably the minimum.

alright, ill cut a 1/4 and see what it does for drop. Doesn't really take that much more time to do more cuts.

I know this sounds bizzare, but many years ago, I read somewhere that the Ford 6 bangers actually weighed more than the 289. I know it sounds impossible, but that would explain the car sitting too high with stock 6 cylinder springs.

Yeah, I might be able to buy that. But the springs are noticeably taller, with smaller wire than the V8 stuff. Mine sits higher than it did with the V8 springs in the front also.

Ya, I figured it would sit a tad lower myself, but then again I have alum heads and glass hood no battery, no power steering, so there is a little less weight up there than what was stock.

Ended up 1 coil cut on pass and 3/4 on driver. Driver still ended up just a tad lower, but very little. Ended up almost 2" lower. Looks TONS better now.

If you can find some that are 40+ years old they will not need cut. Mine is almost too low. I'll get a pic up soon. I have thought about getting spacers to lift mine up.
