Don't jump in and flame me yet! My friend is gonna be giving me some stock GT springs.. so I figuired I might as well try it, what do I have to lose? I'll keep my original stock springs in case I screwup or need to switch back, but I'll try to cut the new springs to give me a small drop (like 1.5")

How do I go about cutting them? I don't wanna drop too much so I don't screwup my caster or camber. How will it handle with slightly cut springs? Any dangers? Also, these are off a 96 GT.. will they fit the 2003? Thanks

Thanks for the info, thats one biiiiiig drop. How did you go about cutting them off? Will a hacksaw make it through? Did ya need to buy caster/camber plates? And whats the procedure in gettin the old ones off and putting new ones on, anyway? Thanks

dude, dont listen to people giving you crap about cutting them. there's nothing wrong with it. people love my drop, and they compliment me all the time. but when they find out that I cut my springs their like oh, why? who cares man. I think it looks badass, and honestly I cant tell a difference from the ride of my best friends 00 SS camaro with Eibach sportlines. yea its a stiff ride, but I like it.

If you are going to cut, I say cut a coil and a half. I cut two and its pretty extreme. most people dont like it, and it does cause alot of clearance problems if you go to car washes, live in a neighborhood with speed bumps, have friends with gravel driveways....or alot of potholes. mines a 3.5 inch drop. heres some pics for comparison:

Damn i just see X's. Well i heard your ride will suck and it is stupid to do. I personally don't know anyone that has done it, so i really don't know. Honestly if you think of it, if cutting the springs was all great everyone would be doing it, i personally wouldn't do it.

LISTEN UP..

reason why you hear people say cutting springs are horrible for the car is because some cars come with Progressive rate springs. Mustangs front coils are NOT progressive rates. they are linear and can be cut to an extent. So no one in this thread is wrong here. Just a small misunderstanding. Look:
Pictured on the left side are example of linear rate spring thus one rate throughout the springs compression

Pictured below are examples of Progressive rate springs where the tighter coil towards the outside of the spring have higher rates. Cutting these tighter coils you fawk up your ride quality and have the 'bounce effect'

In the end progressive gives you ride comfort in conjunction with better handling characteristics. Linear is one flat rate throughout the spring which has it's downsides but better for handling and no guessing on dampening rate.

same setup as me. $100 springs and free installation. Can't beat it. Have you upgraded your struts/shocks? not that you need to but i got the mach 1 struts/shocks combination for $179 at www.fordpartsnetwork.com
Much better handling along with the MM full length subframe connectors. Now for the control arms in the rear

Don't cut them you'll regret it. The car will ride horrible, and not transfer weight worth a dump.
