Cutting stock hood, Systemax intake install

In order for me to get FMS tall valve covers to fit on my car with a Systemax intake I'm going to have to run a 1" spacer, 2 x 3/8" spacers weren't enough. The problem is that the intake will hit the hood in order for it to clear the valve covers. I noticed that the stock hood is in 2 layers. How many of you have cut the lower layer up? Is that a bad idea with all the heat that will be produced in the engine bay? I'd like to postpone the new hood purchase for as long as possible.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Get different valve covers and you may not have to buy a hood. My AFM valve covers had a half inch clearance on my Systemax. Have the stock hood too.

Thanks for that pic Vib. I already have the valve covers though for my future combo and once that combo goes in I'll need to get a different hood.

My Performer intake cracked and I got this intake real cheap, just trying to get it to work. I'm currently running FMS ribbed valve covers, just wanted to try to get the FMS tall covers to work somehow.

Your engine bay looks amazing, I'm sure that took alot of effort.

Zenboy, Just my 2 cents. I had to remove the bar when the TFS was added and was scared about the hood issue....I don't drop my hood as I do on other cars...I am sure my upper intake touches the firewall on the stock hood........My engine does not look nearly as magnificent as Joe's.........makes me jealous....
