Cutting Stock Springs - Questions...

What!?! You're cutting your stock springs, blasphemy! Haha, yes I know - read on...

For those of you who have cut your springs, just had a few questions. I know cutting springs is not the best option, but I thought I would give it a try. I had H&R Sports on my car before, but recently swapped my solid out for an IRS, so I picked up some Kenny Brown springs cheap from a local Cobra owner. I like the drop in back, but the front sits too high.

I was going to buy some MM Coilovers, but then realized that for a little more I can get the new intercooler I have been wanting for my car, haha. Coilovers<Intercooler. So I figured I would just cut my front stock GT springs I had sitting in my garage to see how it looks for the time being.

Now as far as cutting the stock springs, is there any info as to how much cutting = how much of a drop you should obtain? I want to lower it a little more than my previous H&R Sport drop (1.6in drop up front), so closer to the Super Sport drop or some where in between.

Just need to know how much I should cut or where I can find some info? I know it will be easier to play around with it and cut, check, cut, check, etc... But wanted to know where to start, how much to cut to begin with...

Thanks for the info!

Well not to be getto, but about a 2 years ago, when i 1st got my car i cut my stock springs cuz i was too poor to buy springs :rlaugh: BUT i cut 1 and 3/4's coils off the front and 1 full coil in the rear.. to give it that raised *** look.. the front was PERFECT (on a 96 i dont know about yours but i would guess close to the same) it looked great, but didnt ride all that great either, but as long as you dont care.. go for it.. just make sure that you try your hardest to cut the same on both sides and make sure that the pig tail on the bottom( thats where you want to cut it) sits in the same place on both sides and you should be fine..

Let me know how it goes dude..:nice:

on my 02 i cut 1-1/2 coil off the front of mine. looks great, still got the factory ride and it was free. 20k later still on the same cut springs with no problems. hell barry white on his show cuts the springs all the time.:nice:
