The stock 234,000 Mile motor is currently out of the car, and i am currently on the market for a new motor. I dont want to go to crazy like a 331 or 347 i would like to still get some decent gas mileage, but also make some awesome power with sime sort of boost.. I was looking at a D.S.S pro bullet 306. Looking for opionions on this shortblock.,and what CR to run and heads/cam/intake combo for 12's N/a and 11's once the Hp Single turbo kit goes on.

Personally I would recommend not skimping on the cubic inches for the small price difference a 306 vs 331/347.

If your looking at adding boost down the road you'll want a forged rotating assembly... Basics compression 9.0:1-9.5:1, AFR185's, Holley Systemax II or RPM II, custom cam, 75mm TB, 80mm MAF 30# NA (42# with some boost)

I agree don't skimp on the cubes. I just checked dss's site, $2200 for a pro bullet 306??? Thats way too much for a 306, who would pay that???? I recommend staying with a n/a 347 if youre using a stock block rather than a turbo combo on a stock block.

Well I would recomend that if nothing else buy there level 10 bare block you cant beat the maching that goes in to that block and it only cost 625 plus shipping and I would recomend even just getting the 351 block for a couple reasons 1 the block is much stronger that any production 302 better for boost later and most all after market parts that fit the 302 will fit the 351 with eception to oil pan distrubter and lower intake also you all ready have the cubes. And get there main gridle they garentee that you cant take the block to 650 hp and not break I didnt believe so I called them and the guy said that he garentees that I can take it to 650 hp and if it breakes he would send me another block .

i would go with the 331 too instead of the 306. add a trubo kit you can easily got into the 600 hp with little boost. the only thing is you'll need to good block with the 306 or the 331. but the torgue on the 331 will kill the 306 both n/a and turbo. just my opinion

I personally wouldnt waste the money on a block that will fail at the same h/p levels as your current. In the same token, I wouldnt waste the money on built interanals unless you upgrade to an aftermarket block (dart, boss, MOW etc.).

If you plan on boosting in the future and anticipate h/p levels at/near 450+, you need to have the expectations that any stock block is living on borrowed time. Your most economical route is to simply rebuild your exisiting block throwing in some better rings, gaskets and hardware. The resulting engine will be just as capable of the h/p as the DSS counterparts.

does anyone make a good shortblock with a stronger block other than stock? If money wasnt an issue obviously i would have a dart block.

Kind of on a budget.

Nope...if you want a stronger block your going to either pony up the cash for an aftermarket or look into a 351W. Although the Mexican blocks are known to hold more h/p than stock, you won't find big name shop selling them as ready to go shortblock assemblies.

The 351W is really not that much stronger then a 302, when referring to the late model stuff. The 351W has it's own issues and it will require more parts to swap it in your car...

As far as blocks go unless you can find a nice Mexican block, your choices are DART, World Products or the Ford BOSS block. I personally prefer the DART stuff... A stock block is a stock block no matter what you do to it, no matter what main girdle, lifter girdle or anything else you put on it. The mains are weak and thin and that is where the break... I've broken them with 380RWHP and I have them hold 600HP....

What about a Lightning 351W with Gt40 Heads and intake running 9:5:1 Compression. How Much Hp and Tq could i pull out of that setup on that block and rotating assembly?

The GT-40 heads are actually very small, I would say they are only in the 275/300hp range max. A built 331 will make a lot more power....

I'm also thinking about a new shortblock(331), but a dart block as of right now is out of the budget. I read some threads about doing the 351w swap, it seems like you can find good deals on 351w that will hold more hp than a stock 331 sb. But I also saw that some people said it usually ends up costing the same as a 331/347 dart block, is that true? What are the best arguments for going with a 331 dart block over a 351w? I was thinking about just buying a 331 sb and running n/a, but eventually I know I will want a supercharger, etc so a dart will be needed at some point. Thoughts? Ideas?

Im thinking about having the stock block bored over and cleanuo up, and throwing a forged rotating assembly in for now with a main girdle. Im only looking for really 400-500rwhp. What is a great Forged rotaing assembly to go with? i plan on boostiing really soon to so i would like to know what Head CC/ Piston combo to go with for compression ratio. Looking at AFR heads.

Thoughts suggestions?

Your stock rotating assembly is already forged...but even if it wasn't, both forged any hyper pistons will outlast the stock block with a proper tune.
