Hey guys. New here coming over from gm. First mustang. 91Lx 5.0 auto all stock. I want a fun daily driver that will be driven on hiway 300+/- a week. I was reading gt40 heads and intake. Ported?? Throttle body. Mass air. Shift kit and new gears. And of corse full tune. Thanks

daily driver? Highway use? Focus on braking, suspension

  • K&N filter
  • 94/95 gt mass air
  • Cat back exhaust- flowmaster, dynomax
  • silverfox valve body
  • B&M plate trans cooler
  • 130 amp alternator
  • Subframe connectors
  • Max Motorsports rear lower control arms
  • Poly sway bar bushings
  • Max Motorsports brake upgrade kit- hawk pads and shoes, ss caliper sleeves, SS brake lines
  • For fun- Zex nitrous kit

Yup daily and highday. Also live in Boston area so potholes and all.. brakes and suspension will be upgraded would i be bettee off superchared instead of heads and intake?

Better plan on a custom dyno tune and a chip ($300+) if you go that route.

Who's doing the installs? The problem with daily driver's and modded cars is that with ever increasing level of mods, the cars tend to become tempermental. When you need a car that's a daily driver and needs to be dependable, it's best to leave them stock unless you have the necessary skills to install, tune, and then monitor how it's all working together to make changes and adjust to keep the car reliable. No worse feeling to be stuck 75 miles from home with a issue on the car.

I'd prob recommend heads/intake/cam over a blower for this reason, however, no reason why a blower with a mild level of boost and tune can't be reliable as well.

I only make these suggestions since you emphasize daily driver, which partially implies reliability as well. When we are talking about 25+ year old cars, that's something that takes a little work to achieve.

For gears, I wouldn't go higher then 3.27/3.55's is you are commuting a lot on the highway. Suspension in metro Boston sucks. The roads are terrible. I run Mach 1 springs which barely lowers the car just to have good ground clearance and allow my shocks/struts to absorb the impact of potholes. Lowering a mustang really can make one cringe when you nail a good pothole..which are starting to appear these days.

I'd put brakes high on the list of things to do. Fox front brakes plus rear drums blow.

I was thinking 6psi v2-3 kit with everything. I can do most of it myself. But i deff will have it dyno tuned. I do have my truck for work but like the mustang for nicer days

Suspension and brakes first. The youngest fox bodies are now 23 years old. This means most of them are sitting on worn springs, shocks, and bushings. If you don't want to go five lug and upgrade to sn spec brakes then go through your existing set up and get a better set of pads/rotors, perhaps replace the booster if you still have weak brakes.
If you're going to boost the car I'd skip the gt40 set up and just go straight with a vortech kit. Unless your engine is tired and needs to come apart I wouldn't even touch it.
