I replaced the fuel pump relay in the stang about 500 miles ago, now i think it took a crap again!? Is there a fuel pump fuse? I havent found one. Also whats the chances of the auto parts store being crappy or poorer quality then a ford factory one? I'm going to ford for this one, beleive it or not there is only a $10.00 diffrence in them. Also what could be causeing it to keep blowing a load on the relay? Will a relay from a 92 4 banger work? peace

Could have a bad connection causing it to get to hot, or shorted out wire. I went thru 2 before I found out connector was bad on mine, I just pulled one off junker at salvage yard.

Heres why i think this. I went out last weekend and washed the car. I was drying it off and heard a buzzzzzzzz i thought wow that mobile key machine is loud across the street? Then i keep hearing it and look the mobile key machine is gone! I said wait i know that sound? AH crap it's the fuel pump! I get in expecting to see the ign on, nope keys arent even in it! So i grab the keys turn the ign to on and the pump contuies to cycle then shuts off (as normal). I turn the key off and it's good. I put the keys on the tool box then proceed to finish drying the stang, when i hear it again? I grab the keys and turn the ign on again pump stops the cycle process i start it starts fine? Turn it off and nothing no pump nothing? I get done start the car pull in the garage and shut it off, sit there for about 45 mins washing the other stang and the pump is silcent the hole time? Try to start it does fine starts right up runs fine. I get done and go inside and think ya know i better hit the kill switch just incase, so i turn the battery kill switch to off. So about 3 days later i go out to drive it to work cause it's nice and i turn the battery switch on get in no pump cycle? I think well i'll try to start it anyways nothing? try key off key on still no cycle? Screw it! So tonight i go out figured i'd try it again nothing? So i leave the battery switch on come inside and go back out about 1 hour later and shure as **** the pump is running!? I grab the keys OUT OF MY POCKET! And try to start it starts fine turn the key off and the pump still runs? Kill the battery switch and it shuts off? Switch on pump on? Start it alls fine. Turn key off and pump shuts off? So now it's out there with the key in my pocket and the battery switch off and no pump running! So i just took a min from typing all this went out turn on the battery switch and the pump came right on? ANY IDEAS? Fuel pump relay? I DIDNT GET ANYTHING WET OR WASH ANYWHERE THAT I NORMAL DO. peace

What does it read at each terminal of the FP relay when it keeps running or won't run when it should? This is where I would start (if the fuel pump acting like a ditz is the only issue with the electrical system).

Good luck.

When my son was driving this 92 hatch he ended up stranded several times....always after is had rained. Each time he said he heard what sounded like the fuel pump running.
We ended up replacing that darn fuel pump relay 3 times...always after a good rain... Well, we finally got smart after the last rain. We got the new relay, then wrapped a thick clear bag around the relay ( included the WOT relay for grins) and sealed those suckers up tight, then stuffed them into the wheelwell. It has rained cats and dogs at least 8 times since the wrap job, and it has worked pefectly.
Protect the relay...that's my advice and experience.
