Got my new door lock actuators in today. Outside putting them in and I pushed to hard on the drivers side and broke the white plastic clip that holds it up. Broke one arm off of it, I tried it and it wont hold with just one arm. I knew I was going to mess it up, damn had everything going right and just pressed a little to hard. So does anyone have any ideas on ways to fix it? Dammit :notnice:

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I think I tried glueing it back on but that didn't work too well, so I got some wire and wired the loose side of the actuator to the arm that was still intact, went around a few more times, and knotted it. I know it's major ghetto-rig, but it works, and keeps the actuator tight against the one arm so it won't fall out.

Edit: Actually it's not wire. It's some kind of rubber-coated string thats really strong and flexible, but I don't know what it's called

i would go to the home store and get a metal U shaped bracket. bend it to fit and make a means to hold the actuator in the bracket.
also some cars came with metal brackets, not plastic. if buying one, i might opt for metal.

good luck.

Go to the junkyard and drill one out of door.

on my old gt i could swap the actuators in a matter of seconds. I tried to do it on my LX and broke the thing just like you did :( I'm just going to wait till it warms up to rivet in a new one.

good idea Chris. also, if yours are like mine, you dont need to drill it out. with the actuator out of the way, there is a snap ring which holds the mount on the rivot. snap ring pliers take it right off - no drilling required.

good luck.

Yeah, I know that Ford made some that were metal and some that were plastic. Of course I would get the plastic ones. I used this stuff called BullDog Grip on it, and it seems to hold. I'm going to wrap something around it so it wont give when there is pressure put on it. If that doesnt work then I will be going getting a new one. No biggey really, just was pissed at the time.:p Thanks guys
