did you replace calipers on this car or any other parts in the e brake system and not put the pin in the tension relese hole in the parking brake control.
if this is the case remove the console and remove the parking brake control unit (handle and mechanicalsthat it attaches too) withthe unit on a bench you maybeable too pull the tension spring all the way back and stick a pin in the hole too lock it untill the cable is attached.

If your a tech what is the trick to getting the ebrake cables back on the rear calipures.
I put MM lower control arms on and had to flip the cable brackets. I had the worst time getting the cables back in place on the calipures.
Is there a trick to this?

i took a look at mine and there's no adjustment, it's put together loosely. mine vibrates alot but there's nothing i've found to cure it. i've never heard of a recall on it or anything like that.

I had mine replaced for the recall last week, mine also moves side to side a lot now, and is also not as smooth when you pull it up. I liked the defective one better. although it did slip one time in my friend driveway, and the car rolled into my friends brand new 03 gt

your cougar must have had rear drums then. the mustang has no e brake adjustment. but you have too put a pin in a slot inthe rear e brake controler before you relese the cables. or you may have a weak e brake

All due respect but why did almost all of the cars that had the e-brake recall done have the same side to side problem I described? And I mean there were tons of people that complained about this a few years ago when the recall first came out.

Drive backwards slowly, not too fast and apply the brakes hard a few times. Wait! This won't work on disc brakes. Used to work with drums though.
