Hi,

I've been looking for a '01+ Stang for a few weeks now and I just found one in Scott, Quebec. I am unable to get insurance under my mom's name and if I put it under my name, the price would be too high. The price for me for one year is $5,200.00. How do you people with expensive cars work this? How did you manage to get low rates? Who are you with, and who is the car registered under?

I'm really frustrated because I've been saving up for 3+ years for this stang. I have the cash now and I find out that I can't afford the ridiculous insurance for it. Somone help please..... I'm going crazy.

It all come down to age, driving record, prev insurance lenght. Drivers training always helps. And you have to be honest when you answer questions for the insurance brokers, They can cancel insurance if something pops up! I have seen it happen.

Yeah, they can be picky! When i insured my car, i told them it was a two door. Well some lady called me up bitching that i lied aabout my car, that it is infact a 3 door! A coupe is a 2 door, hatchbacks are 3-doors! She then asked about my record and said "dont lie, i have it right here in front of me, so i'll know if your lieing!" I had nothing to hide, one ticket a few years before, so i was good. My record is clean now and i get fairly decent rates. 100 a month for coverage on my 91 S10 and my Mustang. Its not a 2001 so it will be cheaper, but its not too bad!

Oh im with Liberty Mutual. I believe they where bought out by TD though.

Yeah make sure you tell them the truth. try for all the discounts you can get. Drivers ed, Good student discount etc if it applies. They have all kinds of ways to help lower your insurance, I know I took out a $7 a month life insurance policya nd it worked out to a multi coverage discount that saved me over $120 a year. Now this past april turning 25 really helped and my insurace dropped to $100 a month for full coverage and my life insurance policy.

Well Matt, one of the only advantage we have here in Qc, is insurance price. I dont know how you guys can deal with those quotes for insurance. It s insane.
Mine cost 61$\month, tax in. Doent have anything to do with the price of the car cuz Mustang are not expensives cars. My brother in law s M3 is an expensive car. I think it has everything to do with the risk the Mustang represent for those company.

Good luck

I got a quote from State Farm on a '02 Mustang GT. It was $434 a month while being driven (fire, collision, etc - full coverage) and $91 while not being driven (fire, theft - aka winter months). For 6 months driving and 6 months storage, it works out to $3138. This is with a $500 deductible. It is very expensive but I guess that is what I get for wanting a newer Mustang when I am 19. I am trying to be as honest as I can to all insurance companies I get quotes from, although, I don't have much to hide as I have a perfect record.

Thanks for the help guys,
Matt

Problem #1: ANY 2001 car is going to be expensive to insure, ESPECIALLY a Mustang GT.

Problem #2: since you are considering registering the car under your Mom's name, I will assume you are young? No insurance company is going to give a young male driver a break on insurance for a brand new Mustang GT.

I had to wait until I was 28, and even then I had to get a 10 y/o car to be able to afford the insurance.

Scale down your aspirations.

Well, I have been living in Ontario before. I have deal with CAA Insurance Company (Ontario) for few years. I paid for one year is $460.00 with full coverage for my 1988 Ford Mustang LX hatchback. Understand that my car had 4 banger, that why insurance much lower than with V8. That time when I was 29 Years old.

I have CAA Insurance Company's phone number is:

Toronto Area (905) 771-3007
Outside call 1-877-222-1717

Try to call them to see if better deal for you or not...

I realize the insurance premiums are going to be very high. The dollar figures I quoted in my post above this one, is premiums for the '02 GT under my own name. I don't expect the insurance companies to give me a break, I was just wondering if I could find a cheaper place than what I had originally found ($5,200 for year-round coverage). I found something better though which is what I was talking about above.

I'm 19 so I expect to get bent over without Vaseline. I just didn't expect it to be so BIG!

PULMEOVR, I was just suggesting you might want to look at a slightly older stang, the premiums might be less. You could try calling Zehr insurance, 1-800-667-1802

mpcv2000, I hope you don't wreck the car while here in Ontario. Legally, you have to change your plates and insurance region coverage.

A couple of years ago when I started saving up for a sports car, buying an older car was my intention. Eventually, I decided I would buy a newer car as I plan to keep the car for atleast 5 years and I didn't want to have to spend too much money on repairs and fixing broken stuff on an older car. I have no doubt an older car would be much cheaper though.

I don't think you'd have $5000+ a year in repaires though lol I feel sorry for you guys paying so much for insurance... it's such a rip off, I can't express how much I hate insurance companies.
