Try a little more advance at a time until you get detonation, then back off. That usually gets the performance and mileage optimized; usually hurts emissions which are likely not an issue there in R-Kansas.

I hope it is a free problem (timing) and not an expense problem (replacing injectors)...the weird thing is that I noticed it that one time?...
I read this somewhere: Can you get it on in the upper rpm (maybe around 5k for example) under load at WOT and shut off the car (at that rpm )and pull a plug to see if it is lean...? After coasting to a stop? Would that be good to shut it off after being revved...doesn't sound good but was suggested on here as a quick way to find out if I'm running lean (possible timing)...
Wouldn't the heat in the combustion chamber ruin that reading on the spark plug or would it "stick"?
