Good Body Every Morning. I would like to say hi and introduce myself. I just signed up today and would like to jump right to it, so here it goes...

I have a 66 Fastback that I will be running road courses with in a series called "American Iron" with N.A.S.A. (National Auto Sports Assoc.) . I want to cut my dash out to save weight, and also so I can put in a simple aluminum dash so I can mount some autometers. My question is, if I cut my dash out, will it weaken the cockpit (structure) of the car? I have a full cage in it now. Would I need to weld in support bars to the walls of the door pillars?

Proably not a bad idea to tie it all together with some supports anyway. Your already going to have the dash out of your way and have easy acces to weld in some support. Your dash does not way much of anything, once you get it out you will proably wonder if it was worth it to save that small amount of wieght. Why not just trim the stock dash down ??

Track Rat, I ran with American Iron before retiring after last season. Leave the dash in as it is already very light weight.

My race rod was the top finishing early model in 2003. The early models perform very well against the late models.

You might pick up some help at the site.

Here is a pic..............just remove the dash pad. Remember it will burn and that is a bad thing in a race car.

Dash "pads", headliners, carpet and the fiberglass panels in these things make for a real good fire at the track and should be removed unless the rules state they should remain. Of course the "Falcon" portion of the dash (metal) will only "burn" (melt) if it gets real hot in there.
