I got the new issue of Mustang Monthly and they have a Tech on Rack & Pinions did anyone see it yet? They have one from DB Performance, but when I look at the website listed I don't think its the right place. Does anyone know the website? Has anyone seen or installed the DB Rack? Anyone know the cost? Also it says only 65-68 anyone know why not 69-70 like every other rack?

yep i've got one. THE beefiest crossmember I've seen, that comes with the rack to replace your original crossmeber. I believe this is why it won't work on other years?I don't know if he has a site. it's been a year or so since I talked to Danny. That's his banner on my car in my avatar. He's located in CA.

I have known Danny bahn for some years, he is one of THE BEST Ford techs around, but when you talk to him, grab your wallet, his time is money, but you get what you pay for. He is located in Rosemead, Ca.. I know my buddy was going to buy a rack, but it was a FEW thousand dollars.

danny used to work at advanced engineering west in the early 80's, and was onr of the first to install a proper rack and pinion system on an early mustang, and then sell a kit for it. in fact that is when he started db performance.

looks like either a taurus rack or dodge caravan rack. there was a guy here in town that used to do rack conversions and the caravan rack was what he used. the only car i've ever seen one of his racks on was a 69 fastback (mach 1 clone) and it worked very well on that car, but i recently heard that the kid who had the car wrecked it. i've talked to the kids dad (before the wreck) about the car and he was glad to let me have a look at the rack and he said it worked very well and was impressed with how well it worked compared to the original power system. the dad has been a member of the local mustang club for many years and has had a bunch of stangs over the years. one of these days i need to go talk to him and see if he still has the car.

Yeah. I am trying to build a tauras rack right now and I thought it looked similar. I think it is a caravan rack, because the rack is different than the tauras racks I looked at. The article said the crossmember was adjustable to eliminate bumpsteer so I was curious on how that worked. I was also wondering if it was cost effective to maybe just buy the db rack?

That's the rack. if you look at the cross member, it's like 2x2 square tubing. Danny wrecked his 65, from the first article at the track. let me just say, that the lower arms were bent under, as were the uppers. I believe on both sides. yet the cross was still intact. not even bent at all. as well, the frame was still square. you could have replaced all the suspension, because the rails were still straight! I say due to the cross member you see there.
There's another outfit in Orange,CA that does the caravan rack conversions. although five lug. this is okay for mustangs and such, but my 67 F250 wasn't gonna take that measly five lug.

I am a new member just joined (12/31/11) and I came across your Blog looking for Danny Banh of DB Performance Engineering now located at 8823 Painter Ave, Whittier, ca. 90602....Website. I think it is www.dbperformanceengineering.net, now I tried it but It seem to be a general website. I called him and left him a message concerning it. Mean while his # is (562)-696-3271.

I too knew Danny since he worked for Chris Kuafman of Advance Engineering West in Downey, Ca. back in the day and I agree that he is one of the BEST FORD TECHs money can buy you get what you pay for!

Now concerning your Rack & Pinion issue I notice your blog was written back in 06 so hopefully by now 2011 that issue has been resolved. But for those of you who may still need help for for 64 and 1/2 thur 70+ Classic Mustang or Ford you can still check out Mustang Monthly magazine and a new convert to classic Mustangs & Fords is Modified Mustangs & Fords magazine that used to only be a late model mustang magazine.

Probably they didn't think it through. The steering in 69 was absolutely identical to 68, and even 70 the only difference was the size of the pins in the tie rod ends.
