Well I finally trade my convertible for what I want > but the down side is the guy who had it before me did something bad to the motor.> I got the car with a very bad tick in the top end / when I pulled the passanger sid evalve cover off > the no. 4 rear intake rocker was laying in the head.
So I'm pulling the head to see whats up in the motor . > Is there any thing I should look for while I'm in the mootr ? what up grade's should I do while I'm in the motor? I have found a set of 97 cobra heads cheap if I need a head > I do know I need a passanger side intake cam and the lobe that threw the rocker has a nasty scratch in it .
anyone with tips or hit's to more N/A power would be great!!

YEA it open finally > after three days of working on it till I get Pi$$ed I finally got it open to day and man what a pITA> . my worst fear's have blown away as It was the past owners stupidity that did the motor .> the guy opened the motor to fix> something and he messed -up > his bad my good >
He proped a fuel line bolt that the wiring harness clips on too down the intakeand thats what got my valve >
IT DIDN'T EVEN HURT THE SEAT OF THE VALVE HAHAHA YES > so tomorrow I'll order a new valve and test the seat if it all looks good > is going back tegether this week

how about the piston?

take the head to a shop and have them go over it

mine had a crack up the middle of the valves...

as to a cost,,,mine was close to 5hundred.....weld crack/resurface/3angle cut/1 valve/1 seat/pressure test..

i also pulled the other side...3hundred for that side'''

i also used oem headgaskets/bolts at a cost of 5hundred

frpp makes a headset for 100 bucks which i think you can use

i just did mine twice..1st time i pulled motor and assembled on stand....problem with cam bolts breaking(not torqued from machine shop)

2nd time pulled engine but assembled in the car....

fwiw...on the second time i pulled the oil pan just for looking and found oil pump screen clogged with silicone from front cover or something ford did do the head replacement when under warranty..and the oil cooler was full of junk...mine wasnt have as bad looking as your valve..my seat dropped about a quarter inch and the valve was still going up and down,,,,good luck with it anyway you go,,,just hate to here you have to do it twice for something that should have been done for basic change

I ordered the Ford head bolts to day > I did take it to my buddys shop and he gave it a look said it looked good and the seat wasn't hurt > I'd be fine to just put a valve back in and go > so I had him order the valve from Ford yesterday . I'm going to use a Autozone head gasket> it's less than half the price of the ford one >> I do have a question > the cross-over tube that goes between the heads >

do I replace the rubber o-ring's on the bottom or what?
my motor is suppost to only have 60,000 miles on it would you replace the timing chain guides ?

when i did mine i was broke...it only got what was needed...

my o-rings went back in pitted...no leaks

the timing chain guides if they are worn sure...

i highly suggest pulling oil pan...why...oil pressure...from what ive been reading ,,the mod engines are taller and its harder to get oil up into heads...thats why they use 20w oil...,,even if this isnt true...id still pull it
