Hi
I have a 351W engine block with tha cast# D1AE 6015 DA 5.
This is what I know about it:
D1 = 1971
AE = ??
6015 = ??
DA = ??
5 = ??

Actually I don´t care that much about all the numbers, my biggest question is.
What is the deck hight of this block?
I know that Ford changed the hight from 9.48 to 9.50 somewhere -71-72.
Is there any sure way to find out ?

B.T.W
Did u know that SRP doesn´t have their dome-pistons for std bore. It came as a surprise to me anyway.
I Think it´s foolish to have a block bored if it´s not necessary.

I could have the pistons custom made for the nice price of 920 USD and wait for 3-4 weeks.
(sorry, just getting a bit frustrated)

you have a 9.50 deck block. only the 69 and 70 blocks had the 9.48 deck. they are C9 and D0 castings so you're fine.

i have the same problem, i'm planning on building a long rod windsor and KB doesn't have a standard bore piston for that either.

You're only looking at a .020 difference in deck height. Not something to worry over. I quick pass on a mill will take that off and true up the surfaces. Nothing wrong with boring to the next size piston, I'd do that before spending the bank on custom pistons. 351W blocks aren't rare commodities.

the problem is that most of teh aftermarket pistons are made for the 9.5 deck block so the piston would stick up out of the hole if you use them in a 9.48 deck block.

KB willl actually tell you not to use their long rod pistons in the early block for just that reason, though they tell you it doesn't leave anything for decking the block.

In that case, mill the pistons .020 Seems to me there would be shorter 351 pistons as there are with the 289/302's. 289/302 pistons that are ..020 shorter are common (1.585 pin height)

Maybe here, but I doubt they grow on trees in Sweden. Still, I agree and would opt for the less expensive oversize pistons.

I decked my 94 block to 9.48 to get the pistons at zero deck on my 408, I dont think there is a problem with pistons, I beleive all stock style pistons for 351w's are based on the early design and are a little down in the hole in later blocks, I maybe wrong but the 69 351w's I have built the pistons were near zero, I think when there is problems is when using a 69 block which has been decked and is lower than 9.48.

in my case the problem is that the pistons i want to use aren't a stock style piston, it's basically a custom piston that just happens to be available off the shelf.
