Those are FRPPs and they were only run at 10 mph for 2 miles. The noise and vibration they created was noticable at extreme low speeds and deceleration.
The second set is in and work just fine.

Looks like a defect to me.
Did FRPP replace it for you at no charge or did you have to buy another one?

I had to buy another set, so that Ford could finish the job. Ford wanted another $200 just to put the 3:27s back in. I spoke with a Rep. from FRP and they want me to ship (at my expense) the "defective" gears to them so they can make the determination for themselves. That sounds kinda fishy to me

Wow! That stinks! Ya know, from looking at it, it almost looks like something was dropped on it. But the pic may be deceiving.

That's what I thought, but I kept them in the box until they were ready for install. I wish I could just send pictures to FRPP and if they want to take a closer look I'll send them the gears.

looks like an installers problem to-me, like they counld't get the pinion cross-shaft lined up right and beat it in wth a hammer.

You might have something there. And the sad thing is, you'll never be able to get the shop to admit it if they did it.

Why can't you try sending them pics first? I'd at least ask them if I could do that.

Yeah, if you look at this pic, it looks like, by the way the damage looks, that it looks like something hit it. Alsmost looks like some kind of residue where it hit too.
There's no residue, it's just the way the light bounces off the gear (still as some gear oil on it.) I wiped most of it off with a paper towel before taking the pic.
So would it be worth the money and effort to ship them back?

It's a defect... they shouldn't have been like that after only 2 miles being spun at 10 mph. Defect big time. I'd call ford racing or whom ever you bought them from and get my money back... unless you already did that

I'd call them and see about sending them the pics first. But in reality, these gears can't be used now anyway, so if you shipped them back to FRPP and they never send them back to you, you wouldn't be out anything anyway. I'd call them and see what they advise.
If that was a defect, somebody doing quality control over there should be fired. I agree with the above poster, ask if you can send them the pictures of the damage. You send those gears back, and they decide it's not their fault, you're **** out of luck.

FRPP are one of the best gears. I believe it could have been damaged in Shipping, or the mechanic let them hit the ground.

I agree, and it's possible, but I'll never know. When I ordered the 2nd set, I went back to FRPP.
I don't have my phone with me today and I'm not supposed to make personal calls from work, so I'll have to contact them tomorrow and see if I can e-mail some pictures.
