I am having trouble finding a place willing to install the off road h pipe i got yesterday. Having trouble trying to find a place willing to install a pipe with no cats. So far only one shop has said they could do it. He wanted $150 in cash and said he couldnt give me a receipt. That sounded a little to shady.

So if anyone knows of a exhaust shop i can have an off road h pipe installed at I would apreciate the info.

Needs to be in the detroit downriver area. (Allen Park, Taylor, Southgate, Wyondotte) preferably

thanks in advance
Also I am sorry if this is not the correct forum.

Is it an '02 GT? Just call some buddies over, have them lend a hand if you aren't sure of what you are doing. All you need are ramps or jack & jackstands, then a few handtools, sockets (15mm mid-length socket for the passenger side), etc.
Here is an install "how-to:"

Or you could call a performance shop in the area (Livernois, Alternative Auto, etc) to do the work - I doubt they'll care about emissions. LOL

It's a very straightforward install ($150 is a huge ripoff btw), the reason your typical exhaust shop doesn't want to touch that installation is that they could get in HUGE trouble (state/feds - fines $$$, license revoked, etc) for removing a properly functioning factory H-pipe (catalytic converters). So, you can see why some shops refuse to do the work.

Yeah I was calling around and getting some 50 a 60 and a 50-100 dollar estimates from some places. But those I didnt say it had no cats and they didnt ask. The 150 guy is seriously 2 blocks away from my house and i drove past there later and thought i should just go in and slap him or something. Because that just sounded like a joke.

there are probably fines that the should would have to pay if they did it and you got pulled over and it was discovered that they did the swap. i know in CA there are beaucoup fines, $10,000ish because the emisisons components were tampered with. its honestly not worth it to the shop to do it for you.

Yeah I know they arent supposed to do it but they still do it. Maybe I am just having problems becasue I am calling around instead of showing up in the shop. Maybe they think I am som NARC trying to find shady places to fine.

I think I will have to try driving around tomorrow and jsut showing up. it is a little frustrating though when they start at 50 and when the realize it has no cats it jumps to 125 or 150. Just because your going to pocket the cash doesnt mean you need to up the price 300 percent on me.

Sorry little frustrated. Just want to hear this thing on my car and I cant find a guy who will put it in without taking my arm with it.

02GTLR - while you're out driving around, try to look for the performance shops. As stated in the previous posts, it's those fines that scare off those most Tuffy/Midas type shops.

Though I got mine installed as a birthday gift ( ) I was ready to get under there, and do it myself. You may want to give it try yourself. -- Seems pretty easy from what I've read and seen. Just allow extra time and you'll do fine! Plus+ not to mention $150 extra bucks in your pocket for beer.

:nice:

Well I got a couple of friends that would be willing to help they said. The problem is the pipe is 2.5 inches and the catback is the stock 2.25 size stuff. Not sure how to bring the 2 sizes together. The h pipe came in 3 peices that appear to bolt together with what i guess can be described as male and female lips where the connections are made. I dont know I guess if I knew how to connect the 2 different sizes we could do it.

Ah, that's cool your friends are willing to help out. I don't believe the difference in pipe sizing between the Hpipe & the catback will cause any fitment problems or issues. Don't quote me on that though, I think it will work!
BTW - where abouts are you located? Shoot me a PM, I might be willing to lend a hand if my schedule doesn't conflict...
