I know a number of you folks have customized your trunks, I recall some really nice jobs done with polished aluminum "diamondplate" too. I have made all of my templates out of "foam-core" and am ready to make the real ones but cannot find a good source for the plates. My local Lowes and Home Depot have small peices that cost a small fortune, I found some wholesalers that have it pretty cheap but they do not sell less than a pallete full. Where did you find yours?

If I cannot get aluminum diamondplate (steel is too heavy and hard to cut) I am thinking about fiberboard covered with thin carpet like my '97 Cobra has. But I'd prefer the metal for the bling bling factor yo :rlaugh:

Check with a local fabrication shop, you might ask them to quote cutting the pieces from your templates, too. It could be easier and not as costly as you might think. Personally, I'd go the carpet route. All that bling-bling looks too "ricer" for my tastes in a classic Mustang.

Might also look at those tailgate protectors for the inside of the tailgate on pickup trucks. I picked up a couple of those and cut them up for things. Diamond plate is high dollar stuff in alum. :nonono:

Check out the scrap metal dealers.Whenever I am building something I go there first as the place I go to sells you scrap at a certain price per pound so aluminum diamond plate is the same price to them as any other piece of aluminum.I am still kicking myself that I never grabbed some stainless steel tubular stair rails they had, it would have made a great exhaust system for next to nothing had I been thinking.

Get Stainless steel. It doesn't have to thick. And it's still VERY STRONG!!! Get a sraped stainless steel kitchen sink. It cost 40 bucks and it holds a 16 gallon fuel on top of it. I jumped up and down on it before I bought it. I'm 265 lbs. It didn't budge.

Ed Burt shoot me an pm and I can tell you about 40 places in the austin area to get alum. diamond tread . I buy my steel and metals from Triple S steel in San antonio. But commercial metals in seguin and namasco in buda both sell what your looking for, so does capitol steel on 35 n in buda. If you cant find it let me know and Ill steer you in the right direction.
