I have a 67 with a 289. Aluminum heads, intake, dual points with petronix distributor running a edelbrock 650. car had a dead mis/hit at about 3000 RPM when accelerating. I can creep up and surpass 3000 RPM with no issues but when going through the gears it feels like the engine hard shuts off just for a beat and then goes again. I cannot find a loose connection. Can my plugs be wrong for the build? I thought that maybe it was too advanced but as I said when I slowly bring the RPMs up it is ok...what am I missing? I have had the car since 83 and have driven it every year but this studder is new (like two seasons now). thanks.

There is a good chance that it is carb related but of course it could be electrical including distributor timing. The same thing has happened to me in the past but it seemed to be worse in higher gears than in first.
