Did anybody use the shift stops with their MGW?

I know the MGW instructions say to not install the shift stop bolts on the TR3650 tranny because it has internal stops. But people have still bent their shift forks on a 3650 from powershifting/slamming by over shifting. You would think that woundnt be possible if there were internal stops. So would it be advisable to put the stops back in on my MGW just to be safe? I like to slam my gears pretty hard on occassion.

Yes, I used them but left plenty of room between the stops and the shaft. I have a pic I'll post later. its just insurance should the internal stops fail.

internal stops...what a joke!!!! tell me how well those internal stops work AFTER i'm finished paying off my f'd up tranny! mine will ALWAYS have the stops in it from now on

I did not use them. Both Tremec and MGW say not to as the tranny has internal stops. The tech rep at Tremec told me they did a test and their internal stops can take in excess of 600 ft/lbs of force and still hold up on the 3650. The danger is not adjusting them properly or they could go out of adjustment and you could get a "jump out" which can exceed 1000lbs of force. There just is no need so why take a chance?

whats the danger in having them there? as long as you torque them adequetely and allow enough space between the stops and the shifter base while in gear, they arent going to contact anything and arent going anywhere. its just added insurance should the internal stops fail. although thats unlikely, its still within the realm of possibility.

Hmmm...way I figure it, should I mess up my tranny because of a shift stop failure, then I'll make MGW and Tremec pay for my new tranny since I followed their advisorys! Oh, BTW, I left mine out.

you're tranny warranty's probably void with an aftermarket shifter anyway. of course you can always slap the stocker back on should the 3650 fail, but MGW's in the clear should something break. then of course Ford would try to screw you anyway.

Hmmm...did I say I had an MGW...nope, this stock shifter has always been on my vehicle.....not sure what an MGW is to be honest with you.

I set mine, but made sure there was plenty of room. I just didn't want to totally eliminate them.

get the stops adjusted properly and you wont regret it!! dont make the $1500 mistake i did!!

I installed the MGW last week. Took the stops out. I guess it is just your personal opinion to leave them in or take them out.
