Did I break my COP?

Well, I decided to make sure the plugs were tight in my new 02GT. When I removed one of the COPs the boot stayed on the plug, and I was left holding the coil with a long spring sticking out of it. This suprised me to say the least. I stuck it back in, and the car runs fine. No cel, no misfire. Is it normal for them to come apart like that, or did it break?

You should have pulled the rubber boot out and re-attached it to the COP well. It is probably not in there just right at the moment. I suggest you pull it again.

And as long as you are in there...

What I do is take all the rubber boots off the COPs, the boots that cover the spring that connects the COP to the plug.

Then I put them all in a bucket of warm soapy water and slosh it around and clean them thoroughly.

Then I dry them.

Then I coat each one of them well, inside and out, with silicone spray.

Finally I put a nice dab of silicone dielectric grease on each end of the spring and put it all back together.

When I pull my COPs they come off super easy and make a cork-popping sound cause they all have a rock solid seal
