Diff fluid leaking onto passenger wheel?

You need a new axle seal - it's not a difficult install.
1) remove diff cover draining fluid
2) remove pinion cross shaft (small bolt and slide shaft out)
3) remove U-clip ("c" clip) from axle by pushing axle in and sliding clip out
4) remove axle from rear end (pull)
5) use slide hammer w/ attachment to pull out axle seal
6) use seal driver to install new seal
7) go backwards and re-install everything, don't forget to put new fluid and friction modifier in!

How much fluid? 2 quarts or more. I have dealer charging me 4 quarts for an axle seal replacement job. They claim they needed to refill the axle tubes.

thats total BS, rear dif only holds something like 2.4 qts and that includes a 4 fl/oz bottle of friction modifier, you dont fill the axle tubes
your dealer got you on that 1

The Haynes manual says 3.75 pints, which is almost 2qts. Not even two full qts!!

one other step to add. If you have ABS, remove the abs sensor on that side, otherwise you can't push the axle in far enough to remove the c-clip.
I have my rear end bench rebuilt recently and it was throwing fluid out of the breather because they over filled it. If you can get your car level on jack stands, pull the drain plug and see what comes out. If fluid comes out it may just be over filled. If not then it provably is the axle seal.
Did they already do the service on the car ?

Good point! Also, when removing the sensor always remember to ROTATE it to get it out of the hole, and when putting it back in do NOT over tighten it or the plastic will crack, very easily.
That's TOTAL BS that it takes 4qts! You should only have like 1.78qt in there or something. The axle tubes don't need "filled", its one continuous cavity (the center section and axle tubes).
Some idiot saw 3.76 pints or whatever it says, and didn't realize that was not the same thing as "quarts". I'd suspect simple error rather than a ripoff, as it is too easy to verify the correct amount and they then come up looking like thieves...

the axle tube(s) Do Not Need to be filled.
the 2 qts of fluid in the center section will flow out into the tubes and lube the bearings.
