difference between cold air and short ram

Well i cut the mac cold air intake to a short ram, friends keep telling me it was a bad move, so was this truely a bad idea or are they a little special, I know cold air helps but its really not gonna be a big difference.

hey! i have that intake. i dont know what exactly the problems are with the mac that make people hate it so much on here and other boards, but i'm sure most people will say that cutting it up like wont hurt anything with it doesnt look to bad actually.

i've got a tuneable induction intake on the way to replace my mac cai

I don't understand - do you mean it was an 'in the fender' setup and you removed the fender part? I think that is a wise idea - a turn before the MAF can cause inaccurate MAF readings. The straight flow setup you have now is optimal. And when the car is moving, the air temp pulled thru the tube is not going to be much different than what you'll pull out of the fender. At a standstill, sure it'll pull warmer air...but who wants to standstill?

yes it was in the fender, I cute the pipe back. its gonna be mainly for track racing anyways. so i will also be able to take out the headlight. the car is going in for tuning once i get my cams, and heads

Not a good idea according to Kenne Bell. There is an article on the KB website about exposed under hood air filters. You might want to read it

If you're going to keep that setup, at least consider getting some stuff from Home Depot and get a little creative and fab up some sort of heat shield for it. Maybe something similar to the K&N FIPK. It shouldn't be hard at all.

put it back in the fender u are sucking hot engine air into your motor making that intake prob less productive then the stock plumbing that was on there.....

that was a good article. i dont see anything wrong with the stock setup with just a K&N inside it. thats how mine is and i think its very effective for $40.

That's what I chose to do mainly because I had a friend selling a K&N drop in for $25 and I didn't want to drop $200 ish on a CAI that I'll have to get rid of when I buy a Supercharger. Plus the gains on a N/A relativly stock GT isn't worth $200.

i went with the demolet, mainly because the stocker looks like poo, i like the engine bay to at least look decent...

FYI.... My wife bought me the JLT cold air pipe for about $250 for Christmas. I won't report on anything unless I feel it's a worthwhile performance investment so this is why I wanted to share my results with you.

Before the pipe installation I was pushing it to shift from 1st into 2nd at 2500 rpm. Now i'm effortlessly shifting into 2nd at 3000-3200 rpm. I feel there's definitely a positive torque gain as well as some hp pickup. My 4th gear always pulled well before but now with the cold air pipe it pulls very hard.

Installation was a pita but overall I'm very pleased with the in-fender maf cold air pipe.
