Difference between flowmaster 40 series mufflers..

So I am looking at getting an "american thunder" catback to replace the SLP. It looks like they come installed with "super 40" mufflers instead of the original 40's - what is the difference between the two? I have been told the originals are the ones to get, but the only way to get them are to have them welded in. I dont think my SLP catback will allow them to be installed very easily because of clearance issues. Anyone have an experience with the super 40s?

super 40's have a deeper tone but are not near as loud as the originals. the flowmaster kits are always quieter than just using the mufflers in other pipes.

My super 40s seems to be just as loud as originals from the outside, but quieter on the inside than originals somehow.

I have the Flowmaster catalog and it describes the Super 40's as an aggressive sound but with lower interior and exterior resonance than the original 40's. The Super 40's are Gen 2 Delta Flow mufflers which are essentially quieter.

I wouldnt replace your all stainless SLP catback with an aluminized one. Flowmasters sond good, but they rust inside after a few years, & have too much drone IMO. Get some regular Magnaflows welded in. they are all stainless & sound the best to me. They dont have much drone at all because there not Chambered like flows. Me personally, I will never use flows again unless its on a classic car, because they sound perfect on those. & even then I would only get the stainless versions.

I wouldn't replace stainless stell with aluminized either. If however you were going to get stainless steel flowmasters then that would be a good idea.

I agree, only because SLP's are extremely loud. But none of the Flowmaster catbacks come with the stainless versions. Cant go wrong with Magnaflow.

I would love to keep it all stainless but I want a chambered muffler. I would get the SS flows welded in, but the way the pipes Y out, the mufflers would be right under the rear subframe which would kill ground clearance and probably rub on the frame.

Check out the super 44 too. I just picked up a pair, but they won't be on for a bit since my motor is not done yet. They are supposed to be there best flowing two chamber.

Get something other than a Flowmaster PLZ. Everyone and thier Brother with a stang has them!

why not just get the SLP PowerFlo mufflers?????? they bolt right in where the resonators would be

ur chambered needs + stainless steel + fitment assurance = done deal

The current resonators are welded in... could I cut them out and clamp in the powerflo's (in case I dont like them)?

I love my flows.

Perhaps you should take a vote - everytime someone asks about exhaust around here the majority all seem to say magnaflow, yet almost anything sounds better to me than magnaflow.

Magnaflows with my MRT catted H sounds perfect to me. Smooth but with a deep tone. I like flows on 5.0's. To me flows & off road x on a long drive = headache
