Ok ,i know the difference in the tail light panel area .Is there a difference in the shape of the end caps and end of the quarter as well? Will a 70 end cap line up with the edges of a 69 quarter ? I have worked on 69s but never a 70 convert .
Here is a pic of a 69 convert quarter end ,does anyone have a pic of a 70 quarter end ? Is there a difference in the top line at the end by the caps?

'70 convertibles use '69 decklids and the stock production quarter extensions are unique to '70 w/D0ZZ 76--- part #. Also '70 Shelbys were all left over '69s that were renumbered.

Yeah ,i was talking about a stock convertible .I knew the 70 Shelbys were left over 69s .The quarters and end caps are shaped different i found out ,so you can not take a 69 end cap and have it fit the contour of the 70 quarter .The problem i was having is the after market Shelby ,and factory Shelby ,end caps will not fit a 70 because the shape is different so if you want to do a Shelby kit on a 70 you will have to modify the end caps .

Different on the outer body? I'd like to look at an original Shelby and see how well the fit was. I have ended up skim coating the extension to quarter panel on almost every one I've worked on lately but haven't done a 69/70 Shelby conversion.

this is a 69 convert end cap, the point at the top is sharp and high .I can't find a stock 70 end cap but the top point is blunt and lower than the 69 .If you were to put a 70 end cap on a 69 body the quarter would stick up above the 70 end cap at the top point ,and the mounting studs are completely different .I have done a few Shelby replicas ,all 69s but what i was trying to do was put the 69 end caps on an actual 70 body and they will not work.I have been trying to find a pic of a 70 end cap to show the difference but i can't find one .

There must be an early and a late because the one we tried was completely different .The top point is a flat spot instead of a point ,about 1 inch wide ,if i can find that pic you can clearly see the difference .

Definitely different. I'll have to look at VIN but seem to recall it is a low number.

Yeah it is even a completely different shape along the top .It drops off toward the point ,the 69 rises up .and the mounting studs are in a different location .
