different clutch FEEL with steel bearing retainer over alum??

i got my t5 back from rebuild and i am going to replace the stock alum retainer with a steel one. my clutch felt fine last time i drove the car, but there was a groove starting to come. will the steel one produce a smoother clutch pedal???

also whats the best lube for the shaft, retainer and TOB? i always have used engine assembly lube... just making sure whats the best route to go.

I just used good ol ford spec bearing grease. With mine, the clutch definitely feels smoother, but my old aluminum one was groovy like the 60's man.
