I have heard that the strut mounts for the 2007 GT's are different. How so? I have a 2007 GT Vert on order, and will probably therefore get a STB. Will the STB's for the 2005-2006 work if the 2007's are different? I also have the Ford Plenum cover on order as well, so I will need one that not only fits the 2007, but also fits over the cover. Anybody got any ideas or recommendations? Thanks in advance for your input.

I have not heard about any difference on the '07 strut mounts, not that that means you're wrong. However, strut tower braces on the current car can be raised a little by putting some washers between the STB and the strut tower. It won't give you much, but a engine cover should only be a little higher anyway.

Perhaps what you heard was that the flanges on the strut towers were changed from '07-up to a more stubby design to accommodate the width of the GT500's 5.4 4V engine, which is true. The mounting points for the strut tower braces are unchanged however, so you should be ok.

As for STB. I would recommend Strange Development, they have a great looking simple, clean unit that is well priced. It does clear the Midwest plenum cover as well as the 07 Ford one.

I just got mine in today, should have it installed this weekend.

Thanks for the tip on the Strange brace Cowtown. I've been looking for one that will clear my plenum cover. I have the MidwestAutogear cover too. And, the price for that brace is right.

Thanks for all the info guys. Please excuse my lack of attention to detail in spelling...I guess I am just getting old. I like that STB from Strange, but they are pretty pricy for a piece of tubing and end plates. Of course I will probably still get it anyway. Thanks again guys.

A strut tower brace used to come standard on 'verts. I had one in my '96. I'll put one in the '05 because one didn't come from the factory. True you won't feel any improvement in handling, but for me it means just a little less chance for twists and possible rattles. And, actually if you check prices of other braces like Steeda's $300 job, the Strange piece is pretty cheap.

Cowtown, thanks again for the info. Strange's website makes a pretty good case for their STB versus others, and the fact that it will clear the Ford plenum cover is a big plus. I guess I am going to go ahead and order one for my Convertible to keep things tight, and hopefully prevent some rattles later on as the car gets old. Let us know how your install went and post some pics for us please.

Thanks,
Buster

Wow, I just saw the Shelby GT500 STB. It looks just like a black version of the Stange Development one, but I'm sure it is just steel, but it only cost $35! I might have to go that route. If it is good enough for a GT500, it should be good enough for my lowly GT, ha, ha.

Just avoid the Steeda billet STB as it's rose-jointed either end and hence "flops" onto the Midwest plenum cover. I've had to wrap mine in insulation foam as it marked it.

Most likely. I heard the GT500 piece was very inexpensive.

Yes, from Ford. I just saw it on the TMS Forum. KC their parts guy was discussing them on the engine cover thread, page 18 I believe.
