ok so i have the original stock tires on my front wheels and they need to be changed. i might as well do the rims now too but i want to try and keep this as cheap as possible. i think i'm going to buy the 17 x 8 1995 silver cobra r's on ebay for 300 + shipping. i want to go wider in the back and put 285 40 17's on them. i'd move my current rear tires to the front to save some dough but they are 45 17's. would this look bad? anyone done this before?

if your looking for the overall height to be the same a 245/45 and a 275/40 are the way to go.

245/45 overall height = 25.68"
275/40 overall height= 25.66"

the rears will be smaller but if you can notice .02" then thats rediculous lol

Dont put the 275's on the 8" wheels, it'll look strange. 245/45/17's up front will be perfect.

I say try to find a set in 17x8 & 17x9, so that you can run the 275's out back correctly, then get a 1" spacer and it'll fit out the rear end very nicely. Just make sure to get the hubcentric spacer, so you dont lose stud contact.

I've got 17x8 '98 cobra's on mine with 275/40's in the rear and 255/45's in the front. The ideal size, as everyone just mentionned, is to go 245/45 in the front to have the same height as the 275's, but I went with 255/45's in the front since for some reason they were almost $100 cheaper, and they're only (IIRC) 0.3" taller. There's nothing wrong with the fitment and they look fine. I wouldn't try to fit a 285 on there though. Get a 9" wheel for that.

Pic whoaring time :D
