Differental unboled but stuck????

I'm about to swap for 4.10 gears back to my 3.73....(4.10 will be for sale shortly >4,000 miles) Both cappes are unboolted (4 bolts) pinion is unbolted diff will still spin freely but I can"t pull the thing out!!!! tried tapping the pinion from the front< no luck>. Never seen one this hard to pull out!!
Any sugestions?

they are a PIA to get out sometimes, rotate the diff so the hole in it is parallel to the ground and use a big pry bar in there to get it out, pry against the rear end housing.

dead blow hammer is what ihad to use a few times... but put the main caps on with the bolts in a few threads so it doesnt fall out onto the floor

Sweet mercy!!!!!! I had to use a 3ft crow bar to break that thing loose..worst one yet to get out.

Parts are up for sale in classifieds if anyone is interested...

31 spline, carbon fiber clutch swap, and right back with the old 3.73 gears.

Anyone know where I can order new pinion thrust washers for the spider gears?? ! is missing from the diff I got out of a explorer..must have dropped it??
