A while back i bought a complete third member on ebay for my 69 with a locking diferential. It has only been a little over 2 months sence i got the car on the road. I check to make sure all my fluid levels are in good shape engine tranny and rear end, on a very regular basis, and nothing has gone un lubricated. I went for a nice sunday drive today,I pulled into a parking lot at taco bell, to get lunch, when I made the turn in i herd the locker ratchet once then again real loud, then it bound up tight, made a snap sound and freed up, i was very conserned so I pulled into the first spot I could so I get it out of the way and get a look at it, then it did the same thing while pulling in and now the differential seams to be all bound up, :( Im really disapointed. the third member came with a 1 year warrentee so tomarrow im going to find out how good of a warentee it really is. Cost $160 to get the car flatbedded home. i dont have time to work on it tonight, i didnt get the car home till almost 10pm, and I'm, for obvious reasons, in a terrible mood. Anyone have any insight into this, is my third member junked, or is it something else? thakns

Just a thought, not questioning your abilities, but did you add "friction modifier" to the gear oil? There are a few gear oils that are supposed to include friction modifier, but I prefer to add the special little bottle. If this is not done the rear diff will bind going around corners, but generally that would occur immediately after putting it together and driving it for the first time.

hmm,no i didnt add any friction modifier to the rear end oil, i used royal purple rear end oil, and it said it already had friction modifier in it. but the car has been driven a lot sense it hit the road in late april, do you think that friction modifier could be the problem, if it was and i added some would it fic the problem, or would there be irreversable damage?

well i got the third member out today, and spun the pinion yoke, and pieces were ratteling around in the carrier, so my dad and i called up the guys we got it from, and they were very coopertive, and are gonna send a new one out for us as soon as we send ours back.
