Difficulty on 4.10 Installation

damn, how much are they charging you by now?

Umm so waht your saying is you were charged
613 dollars? I dunno that seems very very steep for what
they accomplised to me.. anyone else?

I dont really know because I do it myself but 338 in labor for the axle bearings and seals seems a little high. First of all axle bearings in the 8.8 rarely need changing second it only should have taken maybe 2 hours to do unless they didnt have the slide hammer to take out the axle bearings.

You have to remove your axles when you change out your gears since you have to remove your differential. They just pop off the gears and seals and replace them for the axles while they have your axles off the car. Shouldn't have been $338 unless you didn't plan on taking the diff. apart and didn't realize they'd have to take it apart to get the axles off. The incremental should have next to nothing...

Hope they put everything back together correctly considering they were braking parts to get it apart.

I was charged $200 for labor. All together I paid around $380, not including my chip.

My rear-end sprung a leak via the pinion gear seal. I had a Torsen Diff, 4.10 gears, and a TA cover sitting in my garage (how convenient) that will be replacing the lame stock crap. Also, I'll be adding some 31-spline superior axles. I'll post the labor portion of the price once I pick my car up. It's probably going to be around $300 for the labor based on my discussion with the shop owner (J&S Gear Company in Huntington Beach, CA).

Dude are you serious? I got my 4.10 installed 2 weeks ago. I stood there and watch the whole thing...

cool down - 1 hour
installation time - 1 hour and about 10 min exactly..

result? no whine no noise... gunned it on the highway home no problem..

I'd like to see a video of someone doing the job in an hour. They can't possibly be making all the measurements.

An hour?? Thats just wreckless!! I did it myself (alone) and it took me about 6 hrs or so (going at a slow pace).. Wouldnt reccomend a tranny shop to do a gear swap!! Thats not what they do.. go to a speed shop that does gears all day long.. I use to see this all the time.. you probably asked them if they "could" do a gearswap and they said yes.. when in reality they have had little or no experience with it. Thats why they took 3 days and broke parts! I think Im going to go ask the 10 min oil change place if they "could" rebuild my engine.
