OK I know I am the dipstick for not installing the dipstick in concert with installing the head/manifold.
Now that is out of the way.

I have done a head swap and all is well except for I just can't get the dipstick tube in. I have trashed 2 of them trying to snake them past the shorties past the motor mount and around the block.
Does any one know how to install this thing. I really do not want to remove the header, is it possible to remove the motor mount to make it easier?
Anyone have tips hints or tricks?
Ford dealer quoted me between $300 and $500 to install it to hell with that.

Throw your ideas at me I will use anything I can get.

You need to unbolt one motor mount and jack the engine up a bit, also you need like two people really, best way is to slightly keep bending the tube till you get it in there, its a PITA man I know it. Easiest way to avoid the frustration is to get a flexible dickstick tube though.

Dont feel stupid, the dipstick is a real pain in the ass. I installed mine while installing the manifold/heads and it was still a pain. I bent my tube slightly to make it fit between two of the pipes in the manifold. It was a pain and now its hard to pull the dipstick out, but its what I had to do. Good luck man, only suggestion is patience patience patience, I had a friend under the car guiding it in while I was up under the hood guiding down bending it slightly while I went.

sorry man, it's just going to be a pain in the you know what. I pulled my motor to do the PI swap, only 2 motor mount bolts and some tranny bolts and you can put it out on a stand and it's 1000X easier, and is only like 2 hrs more work.

from what I can tell with the motor out, it going to be almost impossible without taking the motor mount away from the block.......

When i did my first PI swap i almost took a hammer to the car because of the Dipstick Tube...Now I know better..i purchased a lokar flexible dipstick tube. I bought mine at Summit for @$40 heres the Lokar part # for our cars...ED-5014. It will make things easier.

Well thanks for all of the support so far.
Keep the suggestions coming By Sunday I may have formulated a plan of attack.
I think I will be removing the motor mount to provide room and jacking the engine as suggested.

The Ford guy was talking about removing the exhaust manifold to install the tube which is why it is so expensive, I really do not believe that is required or any easier cause the manifold it self is a nightmare to R&R
Are there any new suggestions?

Jack the motor, remove mount, do it right. I'm sure the dipstick tube mentioned above works just fine, but I'm one for doing the job right with the right parts, although there is nothing wrong as long as whatever you use works.

Personally, since you didn't pull the motor, I would just jack it off the mount, remove the mount and possibly the manifold and get her done. When I had my engine on the stand, that HAS to be a pain in the car, i can't even imagine.
