I went to the track for the first time since i baught my '90 GT and was pretty dissapointed. I baught the car from the previous owner who had it for his project car and he did a good amount of drivetrain/engine work to it. Its got high compression forged pistons, forged rods/crank, 255lhp, built AOD with manual valvebody, 32mm fuel injectors, E303,and solid motor mounts. thats all i can think of right now that he did but i installed e/h/i, 4.10's subframe connectors, and lower controll arms (and a few things i dont remenber).

So anyways i was at the track and i ran a best of 13.4 out of 3 runs (the other 2 were 13.5) which was a lot slower than i was hoping for, i thought i would at least get high 12/s. My 60 ft was about 2.3 sec on my best run and i was spinning a lot since i got stock tires still. I cant rember my mph but it might have 110 or 113 or something, might have been a little higher.

The main question i had though, is how much a high stall converter and slicks would help my 1/4 mile times. I started researching racing slicks and have learned a lot. I never liked the idea of using slicks before because i didnt like the drivetrain wear i thought they added but I understand them better now and im going to buy some that fit my rims in a day or 2.

And im guessing with the added traction Ill also need a high stall converter. I have a 1500 right now and i spin the stock tires like crazy, but with the slicks i think i can go with a 2800 stall since my power comes on hard a about 3000 and i think it would be high enough to launch good but not break loose.

Im open to opinions about my setup (after the stall and slicks i have no idea what my next mods will be), and if you guys could possably estimate where the new stall converter and slicks would put me in the 1/4 mile i would definently appreciate it.

Thanks

Dont be bummed on the car... 13.4 with a 2.3 60ft is good!! why?? well if you drop just .3 off your 60 ft.. and all the rest is the same.. your busting 12.80's!! Get that 60 into the 1.7s and your in the low 12.20s...

Drag racing is MORE than a BIG powerfull engine!! Get the suspension working WITH tires and you'll be happy!! cool??

Just me......................

youo've got all kinds of power just get it hooked up. Slicks are a must with that much of a modded engine if you want to get any decent times. I'd look into an Edge racing 3000 stall converter. I'm running 12.35 with 107 mph. Like Thumper said, traction is all important. Don't be suprised if your mph drops with slicks, you won't be getting as much of a running start at the track as you do spinning the tires.

id say get some strange adjustable shocks and struts so you can have the track setting, get some drag springs like eibach and, dr's or slicks, and you will be in the 12's no doubt, i think your et and mph are VERy good for that 60', just need to spend alittle more money on the suspension good luck :nice:

Eibach drag springs dont look pretty IMO. Just got em on my car and the back looks like 4 cyl springs and the front looks like mack truck springs. My front raised 2 inches and rear stayed the same (I had 4 cyl springs) and I dont even have aluminum heads yet (50lbs less) Oh yeah BTW your time is great, I agree with everyone here. As soon as you get a little better traction you'll be set!

Thats awesome to hear, what you guys said made me a lot happier. When i baught the car my goal was to hit mid 12's n/a (then 11's with a blower) so it will be awesome next time i goto the track fully prepaired.

Im really excited about buying the stall converter, tires and suspension now. I can only affoard one at a time right now though (saving up for school) so im planning to get slicks first, then i was thinking of getting the suspension, or would it be better to get the stall converter 2nd then suspension 3rd?

welcome to my club, buddy.

3 weeks ago at the track: 13.3 @ 108 mph (2.05 60'). i wanted to sell it when i looked at the time slip.... but i think that getting an 11.xx slip would be worth it .... on motor of course. :D

be patient... it will happen.

Been there, done that.

Step one is get traction, I would recommend BFG Drag Radials.

Then get a converter, say a 2600-3000 rpm stall, if you can.

I got the converter first, and lost 2 tenths to tire spin.

Got the DR's and got 6 tenths better instantly. That sixty foot should go to 1.8 or so easily.

Your problem is definatly getting the power to the ground. 1500stall? Isn't that close to stock? The only problem with slicks is your probally going to bog the motor witht the increased traction, it might just reverse the advantages of the traction. I have seen it many times before. A good stall should be in the same shopping kart as some slicks.

I think 1800 is stock,,the addition of a stall(my vote is for a 3000) without traction first will give you slower ET's!!
