DISASTER!!!....... well, almost

So let me set this up for you, I have a downward sloping driveway. At the head of the drive way I had a 24 x 20 slab poured in anticipation of someday building my garage on( not the one I stole from my wife where I currently work on my junk). Because my lot slopes pretty drastically front to rear, the slab is level w/ the driveway at the front and 4' off the ground at the rear.

Got all that?

Now the good part:

This morning I have to work on the street rod (that's currently sitting on the slab) because it's sold and I gotta do some stuff to it before I can complete the sale. I was going to swap the mustang for the rod, and decided to start the mustang ( currently in the garage) and back it out under it's own power for the first time ever!
So I did.
Got no seats in it yet, so I'm sitting on a cement block. I start it (vroom!) and I put it in reverse, and proceed to back it up my sloping driveway. I decide to park it next to the rod on the slab (so far, so good) I get about 20' up the driveway and take it out of gear (cause I'm gonna let it coast)
Now for the OH ****! moment.....
I have no brakes! not that they aren't working for some reason, I haven't even put brake fluid in the master cylinder yet. The emergency Brake??? disconnected to make room for those 10" mega back-spaced wheels.. But that is all water under the bridge, cause now we're rolling down the driveway picking up speed. I try like mad to get it back in reverse again, but I guess once it's rolling forward, That aint gonna happen. I don't even consider shutting it off, as that would've been my only option that made sense. Instead I said the f word several times very quickly and watch out the windshield as the car rolled towards the end of the slab, wondering how bad it was going to get hurt when it ran off the end of the slab, out onto the deck, and into my wifes' 24', 52" deep genuine white trash mobile home edition above ground swimming pool.

How was this going to end!!!!

Lets see, where was I????? Oh yeah! getting ready to f up several thousand dollars, and hundreds of hours of hard work.
I'm rolling at about 1-2 mph still trying like mad to get the car into reverse. There is a short span of driveway that flattens out before a small ramp up to the slab. At the very end of the slab parked pendicular, is the rotisserie that I had the street rod body on. Despite the fact that the car had lost some of it's momentum because of the flat part of the driveway, and the ramp,
the car still plows into that thing and pushes it off the slab and up against the chain link fence that surrounds the deck. The entire rolling mass finally comes to a stop 1' before the car goes off the end.

But.....

Its at this time that I finally get it into reverse, and w/o thinking,... let the clutch out. Now we're heading the opposite direction,...I instantly push the clutch back in,......... too late.
The rotisserie that had probably saved my bacon is now hung up somehow on my bumper-less fox body, and we are dragging the rotisserie right along with me as I roll backwards off of the garage slab. My additional rolling mass now manages to "snag" the street rod, and it begins to roll back as well.
Now all three of us are rolling backwards with the street rod lined up to hit the brick wall directly behind it.
It still doesn't dawn on me to shut the car off.

I neglected to mention that the entire slab is raised 4" above the driveway so water wouldn't flood the garage when it rained, and there is actually a small ramp at the front of the slab.

All three rolling masses have just started off the ramp. The Rod hits the trash can between the wall and starts heading back, There isn't enough momentum for the mustang to roll up the driveway, but it does start heading back down out on the slab.

The rotisserie again saves my bacon by getting hung up on my work truck and effectively becomes a wheel chock for the mustang. Now that the rotisserie no longer rolls, the entire hulking mass finally comes to a stop.

I finally decide to turn the car off.

Nothing was hurt......not even a scratch

you don't have to tell me that. I walked around in circles for about 5 minutes just waiting for the twilight zone dude to step out of the shadows

I'm not from here,...I'm from Omaha. Can't blame the incident on geography. Granted the entire.....well 30 seconds was a..............uhhh "momentary lapse in reason" yeah! thats the ticket!

Actually it was blatantly stupid, but then so are most accidents.

Strange how someone who thinks he's a pretty analytical thinker can't figure out how to turn a key when his perfect world has a gear thrown into his wrench.

Actually I thought I worded the story to make the whole thing a pretty funny read.

Yeah, I could do that. I certainly have enough other stupid stories to at least fill up a small paperback.
