Stumbled across my old original dust boot when going through some parts.

I put it on to test fit and kinda liked it. I figure i ditch my red FMS wires and get some black FMS wires and run the boot.

WHat do you guys think? Anyone else run their boots?

Prob i have is mine is kinda a brown color...not black.

Mine wears the boot, I like it, there's nothing about my distributor I'm excited to show off and it makes it look a little cleaner IMO

It's probably brown because the rubber oxidized like some tires do without protectant. I treat it just like tires and use a tire cleaner like Eagle One and a brush to remove the oxidation then hit it with a coat of your favorite rubber treatment.

The boot looks clean on stock-ish engine bays, with black wires, but since I have red wires & an MSD cap, I took mine off. Not that an MSD cap is anything special LOL...

I left mine on when I had the stock distributor cap...now with the MSD cap and red wires, I leave it off.

I think latemodelrestoration.com (50resto) has reproductions available now.

I have mine at hand in the car so when I wash the motor once or twice a year I can throw it on. I keep it off though

The way I see it, Ford doesn't spend a dime on crap they don't feel serves any kind of purpose on the cars they build/sell. Thus, if they felt it necessary to spend the money to have a rubber booty put on their 5.0 dizzy cap, then I'm gonna keep it on there. It isn't slowing anything down, getting in the way of anything, or otherwise causing any problems, so ... meh.

FWIW, I've found that Merguier's Endurance Gel protectant actually works pretty dang well for rubber stuff underhood, as far as bringing back the black color to parts and keeping them shiny and good lookin'. Other tire sprays work, too (Black Magic Tire Wet, Turtle Wax Tire Black, STP, etc.), but the Endurance stuff really seems to hold up best underhood and doesn't seem to attract dust as badly. Ironically, that stuff never does work too well for me on tires, which is what it's meant to be used upon in the first place. Go figure.

On

Another vote for on.

Mine is more on the black side than brown and I think my stockish engine bay looks better with it.

with all do respect to the OP, is this what we have come to? seeking opinions for a dist. boot...........come on.........your car your rules! period, no other person has to approve cause they do not own it..............

with that said, when i see a dist. cover in my opinion it gives a off the production line stock look..........
