well, i was talking to my friend who knows alot about chevy's and not to much bout fords. But he was telling me that on chevy's below the distributor gear, their is another rod or shaft of somesort that directly affects the oil pump? And if this thing is not their, or fell out of place, or into the engine somehow, that it would obviosly be rattling in the engine, and also that it would not allow oil to be pumped into the engine. I'm wondering if our cars have this thing below the distributor gear that affects our oil pumps.

Yes, the shaft that drives the oil pump connects to the distributor shaft. Both the distributor and the oil pump are then turned by the camshaft.

Yep, that shaft falls out or breaks you will have no oil pressure due to the oil pump not being turned by the shaft, not good. The cam gear turns the distributor gear & the oil pump shaft is inside the bottom of the distributor.

should end up in the oilpan...and it might not be pretty....specially if alot of noise was associated with it dropping....

hrmm i didn't do that, but i couldn't get the dizzy back in properly, wasn't matching up, so i took it to the shop, they put it back in, turned it on and a knocking was heard, like something clanking around in the engine real loudly. they changed oil, it was all metallicy.

o yes, the motor is "pooched" lol i love your terminology. But it had 125k miles, but it could have gone longer, well atleast im getting a new engine, wish i had some more money, so i could do more with it while the engines out, but in due time. Thanks for the tech help rio, and the others.
