Hey guys,

I was trying to get my mustang distributor in my explorer block but coild not get it to seat with the pump shaft. I ended up getting frustrated and put the bolt and keeper in and drove it down with the keeper. I am concerned because it went in pretty easy like that. I am thinking either I got lucky or ended up bending the shafy. Has anyone used this method? I dont want to have to take the oil pan off to check but i feel like I might have to. Now, when I take the distributor out and put it back in it seats fine. If u look at the attached picture u will see the section I couldnt get to seat. Please let me know what u guys think.

I am posting on my phone, so sorry for typos and confusion

Thanks

Is this a fresh motor build? If the collar was too high on the pump shaft the base of the dist shaft will hit the collar and cause the issue you were seeing.

I used a new oil pump and shaft but before I installed the shaft I lined it up with mu mustang and explorer shaft. The retainer was in the same position on all 3. When the new shaft was installed there was some up and down play so I dont think the retainer was too high.

Yhanks for the help!

Anyone else have any ideas?

I think I might have just gotten lucky and the keeper being pushed down by the bolt seated the distributor shaft onto the oil pump shaft
