I have to narrow my rear end about 2 inches per side to fit these massive MT 28x10.5w's. I was wondering if anyone has ever shortened their axles there self? I have heard a few different ways of doing it, just curious if it holds up or what....

Thanks

I would buy aftermarket axles. The time it would take to cut axles and the type of machine you have to use to cut them would make it more practical to buy some higher strength axles.

If your using a spool you need 1" of spool engagement with the axle per Moser, we were able to cut down the splines when I narrowed by rear near 2" per side with my mini-tub. I do have 9" bearing ends and Wilwood drag brakes however.

I have a fixure that allows cutting down the rear and welding in the 9" ends, without this you can not do it properly. The axles have to be cut and the edges filed on every spline. It is best to contact you axle brand manufactor and talk to them before doing anything.

My 325/50/15 BFG drag radial tuck into my mini tub nicely with the modification, I assume you are mini tubbing as well? Why do you want to run a "W" series tire, there are guys going 7's in the quarter on a non w tire....

I have already mini tubbed the car, and have full rear coil over suspension. I decided to just buy new axles from moser, its a lot easier. Those cars that are running 7's on non-w's are full blown race cars with crazy suspension to make them hook, im not doing anything special , i just want it to hook when i spray 300 out the hole. The w's will tuck in the tubs nice, so why not. Thanks for the info.
