I dont have the cash right now to get the entire MSD billet Dizzy and 6AL setup, so for right now, i just want to get the car running. I was told that i will have to get a Dizzy from an 85 carb'd stang, with a steel gear. Ive also heard that ill need a duraspark to make it work. could someone kind of run thru how it works for me... what im not sure about is: does the Dizzy then hook up to the duraspark, then to the fender mounted soilnoid? any pictures of any of this would be awesome as well. In the future i will be getting the MSD system since its all plug and play, but im on a limited (Christmas is killling me) budget

Mods below:

Stock block bored & honed to 306
Balanced
Eagle rods
TFS 10:1 Pistons
Eagle Steel crank
TFS pushrods
TFS Trackheat heads
Eddy Air Gap intake
Holley carb

Get a distributor for an 85 mustyang GT with a 5-speed. Do not get the automatic one, totally different. I paid less than $50 for a new one from NAPA. Could probably be found cheaper though.

I never tried the duraspark route. Too much hassle. I used a the module from a GM HEI distributor, mounted it to an old PII heatsink and used that with a MSD coil. You can look on my website for the instructions. Most were not written up be me so I wont take credit but I added some notes and pictures of how I did it. One thing to note is that I found that I do need to use a ballast resistor which is contrary to everything I read. Its cheap and works well. You can even use a factory TFI coil if you have one already.

Another option is using the 85 distributor with an MSD box. With the MSD, you dont need the duraspark box at all. Not totally low buck but cheaper than using the MSD distributor and all.
